Affinity Groups were formed in numerous communities throughout California. All of them were part of the Abalone Alliance. Each Affinity Group vowed non-violence and took non-violent training. Each group, by consensus, chose its own method of protest, were arrested together, stayed together in jail and had support people who helped them before the arrest, contacted lawyers and the press and took care of affairs at home when members were in jail.
